Foz do Iguacu (Iguazu Falls)

The gateway to Paraguay and Argentina from Brazil, Iguacu is most famous for the majestic beauty of the Iguacu Falls, a cultural tourist destination for every traveler. Iguacu which also means "large-water" was first discovered in 1549 by Spanish explorer Cabeza de Vaca who was very impressed and named the falls "Quedas de Santa Maria." But because of the Guarani Indians who inhabit the falls, it was then changed to its present name today. In 1860, a dispute between Brazil and Paraguay surfaced and Brazil, victorious, claimed Foz do Iguacu their territory.
